Travel to Cambodia, Sihanoukville.

So after a nights rest from the rain - it didn't stop until early hours of the morning , we went on a trip to visit the killing fields and S-21 prison. Although Cambodia is safe country now, it was only free from the Khmer Rouge in 1998. I didn't really understand what had happened with regards to Pol Pot so this was a good opportunity to learn the history of Cambodia. Briefly for people who do not know who Pol Pot was he basically believed in communism and trained an army of children to take over the country and try to take the country to the basics of humanity, everyone was taken out of there houses and cities and were sent to work in the fields, the borders were closed and know one was allowed in or out in the late 79s until Vietnam intervened. People who were educated or did not believe in PolPot were taken at in trucks and told they were going to teach or nurse, however they were taken to S-21 prison

Travel to Cambodia, Sihanoukville.

Beach life called so off we headed down to sihanoukville, stayed in a cute little beach bungalow along with a couple of friendly gecko's. Nice place and enjoyed some lovely food. The little town was nice with lots going on, met some interesting characters and seems only fair that at this point andreas should get a mention.......according to him there are shape shifters in the government.....

Anyway after sihanukville we well and truly tuned in and dropped out of civilisation and headed to a teeny tiny island called koh rong saloem where there was no electricity. A generator was fired up for 2 hours every evening to charge phones etc (not that they worked on the island anyway). We stayed in wooden shack right on the beach and shared it with gecko's, monkeys and squirrels to name a few, in fact we was very much a guest in their home......as one of them reminded adam in the middle of the night when it bit adam's toe....

Travel to Cambodia, Sihanoukville.

Okay so the job sucked. I trained with them for like four days and I would have felt like a complete dick if I had done it. Basically they pretend to be a talent agency and prey on broke people who really want to be actors and actress. They tell them they can make all this money doing extra work they just need to get some professional photos done….by one of their studios of course. T is all just a lie to get them to buy photos. The company never gets anybody a job. So I bailed on that. On the flip side, I have been hired as a freelance content writer for websites. It doesn’t pay well, but that’s okay I am happy to be paid to write. Eventually after you have a portfolio you can start charging more. I can’t believe that I am actually getting into writing. I have always wanted to be paid to write. The subject matter sucks but eventually I can probably write about stuff I like more, if not, as long as I can get paid more I’m good.

Travel to Cambodia, South, Sihanoukville.

We said goodbye to Phnom Penh and started our drive out to Sihanoukville. Once on the toll road it was very smooth and we quickly travelled in to the country. Unlike Vietnam there was little ribbon development probably because there are less people here. There is a wide variety of crops grown not so much rice as Vietnam although they do export rice, however more fruit and vegetables.
We stopped at a cafe for a drink but decided peeled oranges were best. There were Buddhist monks outside with their bowls, all we had were sesame seed crunch which we gave away but they did not look too pleased to receive it. Continuing for about two more hours we then came to the river estuary and boarded a boat with the park ranger. This was the heart of the Ream National Park. It was a low tide but after getting in to the water the ranger and the driver managed to push us off. We saw sea eagles soaring and white Cranes feeding in the shallow water. There were a few houses built at the side of the estuary but not many. People were ducking low in the water and fishing out
Typical home on the riveroysters, others were bent double catching shrimps by hand. Normally we would have walked over the hill to the beach however the water was calm so we continued to the beach by boat. As we did this a shoal of flying fish emerged from the water, frightened by the sound of the engine they propel themselves in to the air.Getting out of the boat was a major challenge for me but with everyone's help I ended up knee deep in the warmest sea water I have been in for a long time, I so wanted to swim in this sea but how? The sand was white, the sun was shining the beach almost deserted except for the Chinese restaurant and 3 holidaymakers. We ordered some seafood fried rice then got into swimming costumes and headed for the sea. Steve went for a swim but all I could do was wade in holding my arm.
