Pisa is a city in Tuscany, central Italy and is most well known for the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The Leaning Tower is in fact a free standing bell tower to the Cathedral. 

In 2008 we were travelling to Italy for a few days and a few of us decided to fly back to London from Pisa instead of Bologna. Doing this meant we’d be able to spend the day seeing the main sites of Pisa and we’d ticked off another place in Europe to see within the one trip. 

We arrived by train early morning and the first thing you’ll notice is the rubbish, Pisa is quite a dirty city (well what we saw of it) 

Finding the Leaning Tower from the central station is not too difficult and is roughly a 30 minute walk (see the directions below). You’ll find some great spots to have lunch/coffee around the Tower and be entertained watching the other tourists having their photos taken holding or pushing the Leaning Tower.  You can climb the tower and tickets are roughly €15 and to enter the Cathedral is around €2. To avoid the queues why not book tickets in advance.  The only allow 30 people up at a time, so it all depends on how busy it is. We managed to see the Leaning Tower and some other sites within a day, Pisa does have more to see it just depends on how long you have and what you want to see. For us, the Leaning Tower was the main draw card. 
We would suggest that you make Pisa an add on to another trip you are doing (perhaps a visit to Florence). There isn’t enough to do in Pisa to make it a trip in it’s own right, unless you would prefer to relax and take in the sights and sounds of a small Italian city.
